The Board of the Innosphere recently approved moving forward with Estes Park EDC on developing an operating agreement to provide incubator services in Estes Park.

Innosphere is widely recognized as Colorado's leading technology incubator. Innosphere is an impact-oriented organization, which can provide us with proven systems to deliver high-impact services to startups.   Estes Park EDC will host and fund a dedicated staff person to provide program services, and Estes Park will have access to the full range of Innosphere's expertise and partnerships.  Stay tuned as we work toward implementation of this program.

This project is the last of three major projects funded by a financial award from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA). One central project was completion of the Estes Valley Economic Development Strategy in November of 2015 by Avalanche Consulting. One of the four major strategic goals addressed by the Economic Development Strategy is promotion of innovation and entrepreneurship as an economic development driver. The report identifies planning for a business incubator, accelerator or co- working space as Priority 1, an objective that can support all of the five other recommended innovation and entrepreneurship objectives. As noted by Avalanche, “a business incubator is an effective way to help entrepreneurs take their businesses from ideation to fully operational.”

The Economic Development Strategy further noted that completing an examination of the feasibility of a business incubator, identifying potential funding sources, and completing an operational plan for the incubator will all be important steps toward implementation. Using our local human capital and (in the long run) offering a combination of services were both identified best practices. The following report fulfills this important priority of the Estes Valley Economic Development Strategy, as well as one the key objectives of the Board of the Estes Park Economic Development Corporation (Estes Park EDC) for 2016. The Estes Park EDC’s mission is to build a broadly-based economy and stronger tax base in the Estes Valley by:

  • Facilitating existing local businesses to reach their full economic potential; and

  • Attracting new businesses that create primary jobs and new employment opportunities.

The following plan affords us the opportunity to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of Colorado entrepreneurs while promoting the economic vitality of the Estes Valley in ways that are compatible with our mountain community. We look forward to what will unfold.
